My name is True, and I have a lot of opinions.


I work full-time in an industry where I am both the only nerd and often the only woman. My opinions get heard, but they don’t get heard, if you know what I mean. The guys think they’re nerds because they saw an episode of Game of Thrones, but I’ve been gaming since computer monitors were black screens with green text and every program was loaded on 5 1/4 floppy disks – and I can quote every episode of Stargate. They’re also not great at feminist critique of science-fiction/fantasy literature. But they try, bless them, even though I must sound like a raving nutter half the time to them.

In addition to that I am studying for my Master’s and sometimes, when the mood strikes and I need the extra cash, work in a different industry entirely.

My Master’s is in an entirely different field again – because despite allegedly being an adult I don’t actually know what I want to do when I grow up, apart from earning a six-figure salary, having no responsibility and a balanced work-home life. Since that’s impossible, I just keep chasing whatever dream I currently have. So far it’s working…
